Obituary for Lionel "Blondie" Broden

"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters; He restoreth my soul..." Psalms 23:1-3

Bro. Lionel "Blondie" Broden was born to the union of the late Rev. Edward Broden, Sr. and Gussenia C. Broden on June 9, 1945. On the evening of March 16, 2022, he heard his Master's voice say "My good and faithful servant your work on earth is done, come take your rest." He was baptized at an early age by Rev. J.E. Thompson at St. Paul Baptist Church.

Blondie worked at Avondale Shipyard over 40 years until he retired. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his four sisters, Brenda, Diane (Sterling), Darelene Broden of Saint James, LA and Carolyn Stewart of Texas; one brother, Herbert "Red" Edward of New Orleans, LA; one brother-in-law, Sterling Smith; and two Godchildren, Wendell Broden and Herman Charles, Jr. He will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lionel was preceded in death by his daughter, Patrice Broden; parents, Rev. Edward Broden Sr. and Gussenia C. Broden; four brothers, Edward "Tippy" Broden, Jr., Samuel Broden, Melvin Broden and Kevin Edwards; and three sisters, Lucille "Mame" Charles, Jacqueline "Toe" Broden and Willie Mae Broden.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services for Lionel "Blondie" Broden on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, 6041 LA-18, Saint James, LA 70086. Visitation 9am-11am. Services will begin at 11am. Pastor Herbert Harris officiating. Interment to follow at St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery in Moonshine. Final care and professional services entrusted to Treasures of Life Funeral Services, 315 E. Airline Hwy., Gramercy, LA 70052.
