Obituary for Leon Franklin

“‘And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.” Jeremaih 3:15

God planted a seed and on July 19, 1959 that seed was birth to Lubertha Williams and Oscar Franklin whom they lovingly named Leon Franklin. Pastor Franklin was a man who loved life, family, people, his community, football, kids and his GOD. So, it was on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, God sent His angel to St. James Parish Hospital to harvest a life well lived by a man who loved God whole heartedly. Pastor departed this earthly land knowing that God had signed his name in the Book.

When a man finds himself a wife, he has found a good thing; on September 1, 1985, Pastor Franklin was joined into holy matrimony to his good thing, First Lady Brenda Zenon Franklin. To this union they had two sons: Dontrell Franklin and Darrellion (Kimberly) Zenon. Pastor Franklin was the great shepherd of St. Luke Baptist Church of Moonshine, LA where he pastored 9 years until his passing. He was an employee of Zachary Inc at the Bayer-Monsanto Plant in Luling, LA. He was a graduate of the class of 1977 of St. James High School in St. James, LA.
Pastor Franklin accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized by the late Pastor Joseph Thomas on April 19, 1989 in the Mighty Mississippi River. He was a follower of his commitment to GOD as he studied in the Word and on June 5, 1993 Pastor Franklin was ordained by the Central Union Mission Association. Pastor served the St. Luke Baptist Church faithfully as the Sunday School Superintendent until the passing of Pastor Thomas. Pastor Franklin was installed as the pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church on April 8, 2011.

Pastor Franklin will be missed by all because he loved all. He had a jolly spirit on the inside and outside. Pastor always flashed his big smile and offered out kisses and hugs to everyone. A man who loved to eat never allowed a visiting church to leave Moonshine, LA on an empty stomach.
