Joyce Smith Bethancourt, a beautiful soul, was called on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the age of 70. Joyce was a native of Killona, La and a resident of Hahnville, LA. She was the daughter of late Oramel Smith Sr. and Rosie Singleton Smith of Killona, LA. She was the devoted wife of Wayne Bethencourt. Her memories will forever remain in the hearts of her son De’Jean Bethencourt and daughter Keanna Bethencourt (Torey Sr.) Mathieu. She was an amazing grandmother of Torey Jr. and Kaleb Mathieu. She was the mother-in-law of Torey Mathieu Sr. of Hahnville, La., sister-in-law of Steven Brignac Sr. of Edgard, La. and Joel Poche of Marrero, La., and the niece of Lucille Fiffie of Edgard, La. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joyce was an employee of The St. Charles Parish School System for 20 plus years. She lived life to the fullest. She loved to dance, attend her grandkids games, bus rides to the casino and cooking her specialties (okra gumbo, crawfish bisque, sweet potato pie, stew hen, etc. just to name a few).

She was the caring and loving sister of Gloria Brignac of Edgard, La., Shirley Smith of Killona, La., Evelyn Poche of Marrero, La., and Gary Smith of Killona, La. She is preceded in death by her brother Oramel Smith Jr., sister Barbara Daniel, and twin sister Lois Mitchell.

God bless the Smith/Bethencourt family. My life has been truly blessed by this woman. We've shared some great times as #1 softball players of the K-Snipers. Now she's apart of the best team ever . Angel of heavenly home. RIP my friend
