Obituary

Florida Mae Clay Grow, 78, of Vacherie, Louisiana entered into the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ on August 26th 2020. Florida was born on January 30, 1942 to the late Ira and Theresa George Clay. She was united in marriage to the late John Grow Sr. on April 20, 1963. Their union created four children: Elizabeth Rousseve (Helmuth III), Thomas Grow (Irma), John Grow Jr. (Bridget) and Valerie Johnson (Ryan). She was affectionately known as MoMo to Helmuth IV, Ashley (late), Thomas Jr., Moriah, Caleb, Joshua, Miranda, Shaquille, Alisha, Davon and Nia. She is survived by her sister Madeline C. Dixon, brother Peter Clay, sister in laws Pearl Clark and Dee Grow. She is also survived by a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Florida was preceded in death by her siblings Harold, Issac, Charles, Joseph, and George Clay, Maria C. Edwards and Beatrice C. Bastain.

Florida loved people. She was never a stranger for very long. She was rarely without a smile. She loved to laugh. Hugs were her specialty. She was the gold standard for kindness. She exemplified the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She was a faithful servant to her Savior and a diligent student of God’s Word. She was a prayer warrior who battled daily on her knees. She taught us how to live a life of faith, prayer and trust in Christ, especially in times of adversity. She never missed an opportunity to encourage or serve her family and friends. She was a hard worker. She devoted years caring for her husband, children, grands and great grands. She was known for sending cards…encouragement, birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy, congratulations or just because. She enjoyed social gatherings. She enjoyed years of membership and fellowship with St. Philip Catholic Church, St. James Catholic Church, St. James Choir, Knights of Peter Claver (Inc Unit 161/St. James), and Good Children Society. Her favorite passage was Psalm 23. She lived contently in God’s goodness and mercy. Even as her remembrance faded, she remembered the promises of her Shepard.

In the early hours of August 26th 2020, Florida heard those long-awaited words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” We invite the family, friends and community of Florida Mae Grow to celebrate a life well lived, to celebrate a faithful servant’s home-going, and to celebrate the receival of her crown.

There will be a walk through public viewing on, Thursday, September 3, 2020, from 4pm - 6pm at The Treasures of Life Funeral Home, 315 E Airline Highway, Gramercy, Louisiana.

All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 4, 2020 at St. Philip Catholic Church, 1175 LA-18, Vacherie, LA 70090 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Philip Catholic Church Cemetery. Final care entrusted to Treasures of Life Funeral Services, 315 E. Airline Highway, Gramercy, LA 70052.
